Weekly Update for Sunday, November 29, 2015

  • There will be no AWANA or Roots Youth Group this Sunday evening.
  • Seniors Christmas Party: Dec. 4, 1:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Please wear Christmas colors, but no perfume please-due to allergies. Sign up at the bulletin board in the foyer, or see Pam or Charlene.
  • Annual Business meeting: Dec. 6, following a pitch-in dinner after the morning service.
  • Sarah Mission Circle Pitch-in Christmas party: Dec. 7, 12:00 PM in the Library. Don’t forget to bring your gifts!

Weekly Update for Sunday, November 22, 2015

  • There will be no Wednesday evening service this week, so families may gather to prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will not have the 11th Hour prayer time on Thanksgiving Day and the church office will be closed on Friday.
  • We will be taking the special Thanksgiving offering this Sunday.
  • There will be a pitch-in Thanksgiving dinner again this year at the Robertson’s home, for those who need church family fellowship on the holiday. Sign up at the bulletin board. (See Pam or Charlene.)
  • Sarah Mission Circle is collecting non-perishable food for the needy. The boxes are located by the bulletin boards in the foyer. If you know of someone in need, contact a Sarah Mission Circle member. Also, they will be making blankets for Greene County homebound veterans. Any donations would be appreciated.
  • Sarah Mission Circle meeting: Dec. 1 at 1:00 pm in the Library.

  • Official Board Meeting: this Sunday at 4:15 pm.
  • On the first Sunday of each month, all the loose cash in our offering goes to the Deacons Benevolence fund. We need to build up this fund. If you’d like to help with this, there are Thanksgiving offering envelopes in the pews, or you can use the plain ones as well to designate an offering for this purpose. (Cash or Check)

  • Deadline for Operation Christmas Child: this Sunday.
  • Children’s Program training: Nov. 14, 9:00-11:30 AM. This will cover positive discipline, child protection and much more. (There is a needs list on the Welcome Center for items needed for the after school ministry. There is always room for more volunteers; many hands make the work load light…)
  • Official Board Meeting: Nov. 15, 4:15 PM.

Sometime during the summer or fall of 1994, while driving my family to the church I pastored in Brazil, Indiana, I saw a sign in front of a Southern Baptist church that read: “Come hear Dr. Moore tell about his trip to Russia!” It caught my eye because I’d been hearing about the phenomenal things happening in that country. After the collapse of the Soviet Union the Russian people had a wonderful openness to the Gospel and a hunger for spiritual things. I’d read a couple of books about this, but here was a man who’d actually been there. I told my wife, “I wish I could go hear that guy!” But since I worked on Sundays and rarely got one off, I dismissed the idea as wishful thinking.

A week or two later I saw a big article in the Terre Haute paper, interviewing this same man about his trip to Russia. His name was Dr. Alvis Moore, and he was the pastor of the church whose sign I’d seen. I devoured the article, and then a thought came into my mind: find this guy’s phone number and call him! Weekly Update for Sunday, November 1, 2015

  • Finance Committee meeting: This Sunday at 4:30 PM to finalize the 2016 budget.
  • Sarah Mission Circle meeting: Nov. 2 at 1:00 pm in the library.
  • CPR Training: Nov. 3 at 6:30 PM. This is for anyone involved in any of the children’s programs. Sign up at Welcome Center. Limit of 10 per class, others will be scheduled as people sign up.
  • “Build a Playground”: Nov. 7 at 9:00 AM. We need anyone willing to get dirty to help build the play set.

Weekly Update for Sunday, October 25, 2015

  • Trustee Meeting: this Sunday after the morning service in the BYKOTA classroom.
  • Glenburn Service: this Sunday at 3:00 pm.
  • AWANA Trunk or Treat: this Sunday at 6:00 pm. If you’d like to participate, we’ll be using the NW parking lot. You can back in with your trunk open, and some candy in it! We’re expecting approximately 35 kids. Please see Jennifer Kincaid if you have any further questions.
  • Finance Committee meeting: Nov. 1 at 4:30 pm. All budgets from each Board need to be turned in by Oct. 28.
  • Sarah Mission Circle meeting: Nov. 2 at 1:00 pm in the library.

  • The ROOTS youth group is in need of some female volunteers on Sunday nights. The kids start coming at 5:30, so that is when you’d need to be there. If you have been wanting to get involved, this would be a fun, rewarding time. Talk to Josh, Lennon, or any C.E. board member.

  • Glenburn Service: Oct. 25, 3:00 pm.
  • The schedules for Nursery and Little Sprouts workers are now on the bulletin boards with the Greeters schedule. You may check those areas as well as your bulletin, especially when the secretary forgets to list the current ones in the bulletin!
  • There is a nondenominational Men’s Prayer Breakfast every Tuesday morning at 7:00 AM in the basement of the Linton United Methodist Church, for those men interested in attending.
