Weekly Update for Sunday, August 25, 2019

This Sunday: There will be a brief trustee meeting after the morning service.

Promotion and Teacher Appreciation Sunday: Sept. 8, with a dinner after the morning service. Salads and desserts are needed, the rest will be provided.

Deacons meeting: Sept. 10, 6:30 PM.

C.E. Board meeting: Sept. 10, 6:30 PM.

We will have a special offering on Sept. 15 for Pregnancy Choices, instead of using the baby bottles this year. These funds help them work with young parents in our community who need their guidance and assistance.

Please join us for an Operation Christmas Child “Thank You” event on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Come learn more about OCC and The Greatest Journey discipleship course for shoebox recipients, enjoy dessert and a special video message from a former shoebox recipient. Everyone is invited!

Weekly Update for Sunday, August 11, 2019

There will be a Sexual Abuse training session today at 4:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. All who work with children and teenagers are urged to attend.

There will be a meeting of the West Central Baptist Association Monday, Aug. 12, at New Life Baptist Church in Greencastle, IN. The meeting will start at 6:00 PM and will include a meal and a time of worship.

C.E. Board meeting: Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 6:30 PM in the Alpha room.

Official Board meeting: Sunday, Aug. 18 at 4:30 PM.

Weekly Update for Sunday, August 4, 2019

There will be a deacons meeting on August 6th at 6:30 pm.

Missionaries David and Penny Wingett, serving in Bulgaria, will be with us Sunday morning, August 11th. David Wingett will be preaching in the morning service.

I was born and raised a Baptist. As a boy, I heard things like: “Baptist born & Baptist bred; and when I die I’ll be Baptist dead!”; “If I find one hair of my head that’s not Baptist, I’ll pull it out!”, and other memorable quotes from Baptist preachers. I really like what Evangelist B. R. Lakin once said, though: “I used to be proud of being a Baptist ‘til I found out how many of us were in the penitentiary!”

“Beach Bash” block parties: July 13, 20, and 27, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

Prayer Event for Madi Moore: July 21, at Humphrey Park. Food vendors will be set up by 11:00 am, a cruise-in is scheduled for 1:00 pm, and a community wide prayer for Madi will take place at 2:00 pm.

“Beach Bash” block parties: July 13, 20, and 27, 6:00-8:00 pm. If interested in donating or helping in any way, please contact the C.E. board. There are also various sign-up sheets at the Welcome Center.

Volunteers are needed for the After School program: one day per week from 3:20-5 pm, to help with homework and activities. Please contact Kim Collins.

Our teen group is looking for summer service projects. If you need yard work, window washing, or anything they can do for you, contact the church office.

Pastor Lockwood

Last week a faithful servant of God went to his reward. Glen Lockwood had been a Pastor to my family for almost four decades. Other people called him Glen, but I never could. To me, he was always Pastor Lockwood.

In the late seventies my family left the church I’d grown up in up in because the services had become too political. My parents found their way to Gray Road Baptist Church on the south side of Indianapolis, where Glen Lockwood was Pastor. It wasn’t long until they’d made Gray Road their new church home. And the longer they sat under Pastor Lockwood’s ministry, the more their respect for him deepened.

Weekly Update for Sunday, June 30, 2019

This Sunday is our Fifth Sunday for Operation Christmas Child (Shoebox) postage giving. Each box takes $9.00 postage. Information is set up by the Welcome Center. See Tammy Hart if you have any questions.

Following the morning service, the Christian Education Board will have a 30-45 minute meeting in the JOY classroom to do a rundown of the Block parties. We will also have a time of prayer. Everyone is welcome.
