Evening Service today (January 14th) is cancelled due to the weather.

Youth Group (6th–12th) Join us Sunday evenings from 6:00-7:00 for Rooted Youth Group! Come spend time with friends as we have fun and explore the Christian faith. Our current study explores God making us whole.

Bible Explorers (3’s–5th) Join us Wednesday nights from 6:15-7:30 for our midweek children’s discipleship program. We’d love to have you with us for engaging Bible lessons, Scripture memory time, and fun games.

Nursery Volunteers Meeting There will be a brief meeting for those serving in the nursery on January 21 after the morning service.

Couples Getaway We have several couples planning an overnight getaway to McCormick’s Creek State Park from January 30 through February 1. They’d love to have you join them for a time of fun and fellowship. If you have questions about making your own reservations or anything else, please see Connie Liechty or Barbara Hohmann.

Operation Christmas Child OCC items for January are stuffed animals and games.

Reading the Bible

The first time I tried to read the Bible was when I was a boy, probably in the first or second grade. My parents had a big black leather Bible they kept on our coffee table. I knew this book was important to my parents and grandparents, and to the preacher at our church, so I became curious to know what it was inside. I opened the front cover and began turning pages, trying to read here and there. I had no idea who King James was (the old rascal), or what King James English should sound like. After a few fruitless minutes trying to understand something of what I could read, I closed the Bible and put it back in its place on the coffee table. My initial exposure to God’s Word left me feeling that the Bible was a mysterious and difficult book.

The Bible is a mysterious and difficult Book. But it is also meant to be read and understood, at least in its main message. The fact is, when the Bible is translated into their native languages, the Story of the Bible can be understood by people all over the world.

Youth Group (6th–12th) There is no Youth Group this Sunday night. We’ll be back together on January 7!

Bible Explorers (3’s–5th) Bible Explorers is taking a break for a few weeks. We’ll be back together on January 10!

No Evening Service There will be no Evening Worship Service tonight in order to allow families more time for holiday gatherings.

Youth Group (6th–12th) Join us for our Christmas party this Sunday evening from 6:00-7:00 PM!

Bible Explorers (3’s–5th) Join us Wednesday night from 6:15-7:30 for our last gathering before we break for the holidays.

Deacons Meeting Today after the worship service in the BYKOTA classroom.

Candlelight Service Our Candlelight Christmas Service will be this Friday, December 22 at 6:30 in the church sanctuary. The sanctuary will be dimmed and lit with candles, and Christmas carols will be sung to the accompaniment of classical guitar. Pastor David will bring a PowerPoint message with the theme “Christmas Is Christian!” Every child present will receive a bag of chocolate coins. Some of the adults may receive a lump of coal.

Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve There will be no Evening Worship Services on Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve in order to allow families more time for holiday gatherings.

2024 Children’s Ministries If you’re interested in serving in the Nursery, in the Little Sprouts, in the Elementary Sunday School class, or in the Treehouse, please sign up at the Welcome Center. See Pastor Bobby with any questions.

Glory in the Highest

I have loved Christmas lights from the time I was a small boy. Whether they were on my family’s Christmas tree at home, or adorning various houses on the drive home from my grandparents’ house, it was always a thrill to see Christmas lights. Sometimes my Dad would take the long way home just so we could see more Christmas lights.

Back in the late fifties we always had real a Christmas tree with those big, colorful, tear-shaped lights, the same kind you see on Ralphie’s Christmas tree in A Christmas Story. Then sometime in the 1960s Mom got tired of cleaning up pine needles and we got an artificial tree. For a while we used the old lights, but by the 1970s we had changed to the smaller, brighter lights shaped like tiny eyedroppers.

And the artificial trees were different in another crucial respect: the branches didn’t go all the way to the ground. (I guess that was to make room for more presents…?) That key difference made it possible to do something my brothers and I had never done before: we could lay under the tree and look up at the lights through the branches…at least until the presents crowded us out. I always thought it was especially beautiful, seeing the lights that way. Even as an adult from time to time I have laid down with my head under the tree to see the lights (when no one was looking).

Bible Explorers (3’s–5th) Join us Wednesday nights from 6:15-7:30 for our midweek children’s discipleship program. We’d love to have you with us for engaging Bible lessons, Scripture memory time, and fun games.

Candlelight Service Our Candlelight Christmas Service will be Friday, December 22 at 6:30 in the church sanctuary.
